### The Mathematics of Capital Preservation
Amateur traders focus almost exclusively on entry signals. Institutional traders focus on risk management, drawdown recovery curves, and expectancy formulas.
Consider the mathematics of loss: a 10% loss requires an 11% gain to break even. A 50% loss requires a 100% gain just to restore initial principal. A 75% drawdown requires a staggering 300% return.
By capping individual trade exposure to a calculated 1% of total portfolio value and executing strictly when risk-to-reward reaches at least 1:3, an analyst can be wrong 60% of the time and still maintain positive statistical expectancy over 1,000 trades.
